As markets experience less volume of transactions, investors’ demand for multi asset trading grows. Investors increasingly need the ability to trade multiple assets electronically and look for a one-stop-shop – convenience is paramount.

But the concept of multi-asset trading remains a subject of controversy. While some define it as "the simultaneous trading of cash equities, derivatives and FX", others include fixed income among those categories.

So, how would you define multi-asset trading?

We have recently asked this question on the "Multi Asset Trading Network" on LinkedIn. In his answer to the question, James Stoker, from Fortis Bank, set the challenge: "Who can cross correlate all these asset classes into one book with offsets so that traders can utilise their collateral effectively?"

Certainly, we are a very far away from being able to deal in all markets across all instruments. But this is as much of a challenge as it is an opportunity. After all, investors want to find the most liquid markets and the highest returns.
